Description

Willow Hybrid Trees (Salix × species) are the fastest-growing privacy and shade trees available — reaching up to 15 feet tall in just 2–3 seasons. Unlike weeping willows, this hybrid grows in a clean, upright pyramidal form that works well in rows along property lines, fence lines, and open acreage. Deciduous but fast enough to provide meaningful summer screening quickly, and excellent for stabilizing wet or low-lying areas where other trees won't thrive. Sold as a 5-pack of bare-root trees for maximum value on large plantings.

Why Gardeners Choose Willow Hybrid Trees

  • Extraordinary growth rate: Up to 15 feet in 2–3 seasons — the fastest option for establishing shade and screening on large properties.
  • Upright, tidy form: Clean pyramidal silhouette, not a sprawling weeping habit — works well in structured rows and shelterbelts.
  • Thrives in wet areas: Excellent for damp, poorly drained, and low-lying spots where other trees fail from root rot.
  • Erosion and bank stabilization: Aggressive root system anchors loose soils along water margins, slopes, and disturbed areas.
  • Long seasonal coverage: Leafs out early in spring and holds foliage late into fall for extended screening.
  • Great companion planting: Use alongside Murray Cypress or Green Giant Arborvitae for year-round coverage — willows provide fast summer shade while evergreens establish for winter screening.

Planting & Care

  • Light: Full sun; 6–8 hours minimum daily.
  • Soil: Adaptable; thrives in moist, wet, and poorly drained soils. Tolerates poor soils.
  • Spacing: 5–7 feet apart in a single row; 8 feet apart in a staggered double row for a dense windbreak.
  • Watering: Deep watering once or twice a week April through October in the first season; performs best with consistent ground moisture.
  • Pruning: Optional light winter shaping to maintain desired height.
  • Note: Best suited for northern and midwestern climates; not recommended for the extreme Deep South.

Shipping Information

  • Ships as a 5-pack of bare-root trees, averaging 1–2 feet tall, ready for spring installation.
Reviews

When will my order ship?

Most orders ship within 2–5 business days. You'll receive a tracking email as soon as your order is on its way. Shipping times may vary slightly during peak growing season.

How do I plant my new plant when it arrives?

Water your plant thoroughly as soon as it arrives. Choose a location that matches the plant's light requirements, dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball, and plant at the same depth it was growing in the pot. Water deeply after planting and keep the soil consistently moist for the first few weeks while roots establish.

What if my plant arrives damaged?

We stand behind every plant we ship. If your plant arrives damaged or in poor condition, please contact us within 5 days of delivery with a photo and we'll make it right — replacement or refund, your choice.

What growing zones do your plants ship to?

Most of our plants are suited to USDA Hardiness Zones 5–9. Each product page includes the specific zone range for that plant. Some plants cannot ship to certain states due to agricultural regulations — this is noted on individual product pages.
