Description

Full Speed A Hedge® Thin Man® Arborvitae (Thuja occidentalis) is the narrowest, most space-efficient privacy tree in its class — a razor-slim columnar evergreen that reaches 12–15 feet tall at just 3–5 feet wide. Faster establishing than Emerald Green, stronger against ice and snow loads, and engineered to hold deep green color through winter without bronzing. The ideal solution for tight urban lot lines, compact patio perimeters, and anywhere vertical height is needed without sacrificing square footage.

Why Gardeners Choose Thin Man Arborvitae

  • Exceptionally narrow: 12–15 feet tall at just 3–5 feet wide — the tightest footprint of any arborvitae in its class.
  • Fast establishing: Outpaces Emerald Green in growth speed, entering its high-velocity upward phase after the first root-establishment season.
  • Holds green through winter: Engineered to resist the bronzing and browning common in lesser thujas during cold months.
  • Structurally tough: Superior resistance to ice splitting, heavy snow loads, and wind deformation.
  • Disease and pest resistant: Low-maintenance and reliable year after year.
  • No pruning needed: Naturally maintains its tight columnar form without shearing.

Planting & Care

  • Light: Full sun to part shade; 6+ hours daily for best density and color.
  • Soil: Well-drained; dig holes 1 foot deep by 1.5 feet wide, blending one-third aged compost into backfill. Set root ball 2 inches above surrounding soil line.
  • Spacing: 3 feet on center for a seamless privacy wall; position at least 2.5 feet from fences or property lines.
  • Watering: Deep weekly watering April through October in the first season; apply organic mulch around the base, keeping it clear of the trunk.
  • Year 2+: Apply nitrogen-rich fertilizer in early spring; keep lawn chemicals 10–20 feet from root zones.
  • Deer protection: Use repellent or physical barriers on young trees during the first few seasons.

Reviews

When will my order ship?

Most orders ship within 2–5 business days. You'll receive a tracking email as soon as your order is on its way. Shipping times may vary slightly during peak growing season.

How do I plant my new plant when it arrives?

Water your plant thoroughly as soon as it arrives. Choose a location that matches the plant's light requirements, dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball, and plant at the same depth it was growing in the pot. Water deeply after planting and keep the soil consistently moist for the first few weeks while roots establish.

What if my plant arrives damaged?

We stand behind every plant we ship. If your plant arrives damaged or in poor condition, please contact us within 5 days of delivery with a photo and we'll make it right — replacement or refund, your choice.

What growing zones do your plants ship to?

Most of our plants are suited to USDA Hardiness Zones 5–9. Each product page includes the specific zone range for that plant. Some plants cannot ship to certain states due to agricultural regulations — this is noted on individual product pages.
