Description

Mesa Red Gaillardia (Gaillardia x grandiflora 'Mesa Red') is a bold, early-blooming blanket flower that delivers intense, non-fading red blooms from early summer right through the growing season. Sturdy and well-branched, it holds up beautifully in heat and drought without missing a beat. A great choice for sunny borders, containers, and any spot that needs reliable, long-season color with minimal care.

Why Gardeners Choose Mesa Red Gaillardia

  • Intense, non-fading color: Deep red blooms hold their vibrant hue all season long — no fading in summer heat.
  • Early and long blooming: One of the first blanket flowers to open in spring, and one of the last to stop in fall.
  • Drought tolerant: Thrives with minimal water once established — ideal for low-water gardens.
  • Pollinator friendly: Consistently attracts butterflies and bees through the bloom season.
  • Sturdy habit: Well-branched plants stay upright without staking.
  • Versatile: Works equally well in landscape borders and containers.

Planting & Care

  • Light: Full sun.
  • Soil: Well-drained; tolerates poor and sandy soils well.
  • Watering: Regular watering until established; very low water needs after.
  • Deadheading: Remove spent blooms to encourage continuous flowering.
  • Companions: Pair with Mesa Bright Bicolor Gaillardia for a dynamic warm-toned display.

When will my order ship?

Most orders ship within 2–5 business days. You'll receive a tracking email as soon as your order is on its way. Shipping times may vary slightly during peak growing season.

How do I plant my new plant when it arrives?

Water your plant thoroughly as soon as it arrives. Choose a location that matches the plant's light requirements, dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball, and plant at the same depth it was growing in the pot. Water deeply after planting and keep the soil consistently moist for the first few weeks while roots establish.

What if my plant arrives damaged?

We stand behind every plant we ship. If your plant arrives damaged or in poor condition, please contact us within 5 days of delivery with a photo and we'll make it right — replacement or refund, your choice.

What growing zones do your plants ship to?

Most of our plants are suited to USDA Hardiness Zones 5–9. Each product page includes the specific zone range for that plant. Some plants cannot ship to certain states due to agricultural regulations — this is noted on individual product pages.
