Description

White Creeping Phlox (Phlox subulata) is a tough, low-growing evergreen perennial that delivers one of the most spectacular early spring displays of any groundcover — the entire plant disappears under a dense, blinding blanket of pure white blooms for several weeks starting in early spring. After flowering, the fine, needle-like foliage remains clean and green all season, forming a tight, moss-like mat that suppresses weeds and stabilizes slopes. Excellent in rock gardens, along retaining walls, spilling over stone steps, and on sunny embankments.

Why Gardeners Choose White Creeping Phlox

  • Spectacular spring bloom: The entire plant covers itself in pure white flowers in early spring — one of the cleanest, most dramatic mass bloom displays of any perennial groundcover.
  • True evergreen: Fine, needle-like foliage stays green and tidy all four seasons, providing year-round structure after blooms fade.
  • Erosion control: Deep-rooting habit anchors loose soil on sunny slopes and embankments.
  • Drought and heat tolerant: Alpine heritage makes it exceptionally tough in lean, sandy, rocky, and sun-baked soils.
  • Hardscape friendly: Cascades gracefully over retaining walls, stone steps, and boulder outcroppings, softening hard edges with living texture.
  • Low maintenance: Needs almost no care beyond a light trim after blooming.

Planting & Care

  • Light: Full sun.
  • Soil: Well-drained; tolerates lean, sandy, and rocky soils. Sensitive to standing winter moisture.
  • Mature size: 4–6 inches tall, 12–18 inch spread per plant.
  • Watering: Regular moisture during establishment; low water needs once rooted in.
  • Post-bloom care: Lightly clip back after spring bloom to remove spent flowers and encourage fresh, compact summer growth.
  • Fertilizing: Apply a balanced fertilizer in late spring post-bloom if desired — pull back mulch, apply to soil, replace mulch, and water deeply.

Shipping Information

When will my order ship?

Most orders ship within 2–5 business days. You'll receive a tracking email as soon as your order is on its way. Shipping times may vary slightly during peak growing season.

How do I plant my new plant when it arrives?

Water your plant thoroughly as soon as it arrives. Choose a location that matches the plant's light requirements, dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball, and plant at the same depth it was growing in the pot. Water deeply after planting and keep the soil consistently moist for the first few weeks while roots establish.

What if my plant arrives damaged?

We stand behind every plant we ship. If your plant arrives damaged or in poor condition, please contact us within 5 days of delivery with a photo and we'll make it right — replacement or refund, your choice.

What growing zones do your plants ship to?

Most of our plants are suited to USDA Hardiness Zones 5–9. Each product page includes the specific zone range for that plant. Some plants cannot ship to certain states due to agricultural regulations — this is noted on individual product pages.
