Description

Amethyst Falls Wisteria (Wisteria frutescens 'Amethyst Falls') is the best wisteria for home gardens — a North American native that delivers the iconic cascading lavender-purple blooms without the destructive aggression of Asian varieties. It grows at roughly one-third the speed of Chinese or Japanese wisteria, blooms reliably in its first few years, and repeats through summer after the main spring flush. Safe for pergolas, arbors, trellises, and containers.

Why Gardeners Choose Amethyst Falls Wisteria

  • Native and non-invasive: A North American native that won't tear apart structures or escape into natural areas like Asian wisterias.
  • Blooms young: Flowers reliably in its first few years — no waiting decades for blooms like exotic varieties.
  • Reblooms through summer: After the main spring flush, lighter bloom cycles continue into summer with minimal pruning.
  • Fragrant cascading clusters: Dense 4–6 inch lavender-purple flower clusters with a sweet, classic wisteria fragrance.
  • Manageable size: Matures to 8–10 feet — perfectly scaled for residential arbors, entry trellises, and patio containers.
  • Adaptable: Tolerates heavy clay, alkaline soils, coastal salt air, and urban conditions.

Planting & Care

  • Light: Full sun to part shade; 6+ hours daily for best flowering.
  • Soil: Adaptable to most soil types including heavy clay and alkaline conditions.
  • Support: Plant at the base of a sturdy trellis, arbor, or deck post and secure tendrils during the first season.
  • Watering: Deep weekly watering during dry spells until established; mulch around the base.
  • Pruning: Prune once a year immediately after the main spring bloom fades to shape and encourage summer reblooming.

When will my order ship?

Most orders ship within 2–5 business days. You'll receive a tracking email as soon as your order is on its way. Shipping times may vary slightly during peak growing season.

How do I plant my new plant when it arrives?

Water your plant thoroughly as soon as it arrives. Choose a location that matches the plant's light requirements, dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball, and plant at the same depth it was growing in the pot. Water deeply after planting and keep the soil consistently moist for the first few weeks while roots establish.

What if my plant arrives damaged?

We stand behind every plant we ship. If your plant arrives damaged or in poor condition, please contact us within 5 days of delivery with a photo and we'll make it right — replacement or refund, your choice.

What growing zones do your plants ship to?

Most of our plants are suited to USDA Hardiness Zones 5–9. Each product page includes the specific zone range for that plant. Some plants cannot ship to certain states due to agricultural regulations — this is noted on individual product pages.
