Description

Creeping Mazus (Mazus reptans) is a low-growing perennial groundcover that excels where most others fail — moist, poorly drained spots, shaded stepping stone paths, and damp low-lying areas. It forms a tight, emerald-green mat just an inch or two tall, tolerates regular foot traffic, and puts on a charming show of purple-blue to white tubular flowers in late spring and early summer. A practical and attractive solution for the wet, shady problem spots in your landscape.

Why Gardeners Choose Creeping Mazus

  • Thrives in moist conditions: One of the few groundcovers that actually performs well in damp, poorly drained, and periodically saturated soils.
  • Handles foot traffic: Flexible, low-slung stems bounce back from regular use between stepping stones and along garden paths.
  • Beautiful spring bloom: Covers itself in purple-blue to white tubular flowers in late spring through early summer.
  • Natural weed suppressor: Dense mat fills joints between stepping stones and paving, blocking opportunistic weeds.
  • Shade tolerant: Performs well in part shade to full sun — useful under trees and near downspouts where other plants struggle.
  • Pairs beautifully: Mix with Mazus Alba for a shifting purple-and-white carpet effect.

Planting & Care

  • Light: Full sun to part shade.
  • Soil: Prefers moist, organic-rich soil; tolerates damp and poorly drained conditions exceptionally well.
  • Watering: Keep consistently moist after planting to encourage root establishment.
  • Spacing: Space plugs evenly across hardscape joints or open beds to allow stems to knit together naturally.

Shipping Information

When will my order ship?

Most orders ship within 2–5 business days. You'll receive a tracking email as soon as your order is on its way. Shipping times may vary slightly during peak growing season.

How do I plant my new plant when it arrives?

Water your plant thoroughly as soon as it arrives. Choose a location that matches the plant's light requirements, dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball, and plant at the same depth it was growing in the pot. Water deeply after planting and keep the soil consistently moist for the first few weeks while roots establish.

What if my plant arrives damaged?

We stand behind every plant we ship. If your plant arrives damaged or in poor condition, please contact us within 5 days of delivery with a photo and we'll make it right — replacement or refund, your choice.

What growing zones do your plants ship to?

Most of our plants are suited to USDA Hardiness Zones 5–9. Each product page includes the specific zone range for that plant. Some plants cannot ship to certain states due to agricultural regulations — this is noted on individual product pages.
