Description

English Ivy (Hedera helix) is one of the most versatile evergreen plants in the landscape — a fast-spreading groundcover that blankets slopes, suppresses weeds, and stays green year-round, or a climbing vine that softens walls, fences, and trellises with classic deep green foliage. Equally at home in dry shade under tree canopies or as a clean, low-maintenance lawn alternative on steep embankments where mowing isn't practical.

Why Gardeners Choose English Ivy

  • Dual-purpose: Works as a spreading groundcover (8–10 inches tall) or a climbing vine (up to 9 feet) — adaptable to almost any landscape challenge.
  • Fast coverage: Quickly forms an interlocking, weed-suppressing mat over large or difficult areas.
  • Year-round evergreen: Glossy deep green foliage holds its color and texture through harsh winters.
  • Shade tolerant: Thrives in part to deep shade — excellent under heavy tree lines where grass thins out.
  • Erosion control: Dense fibrous root system binds loose soils on steep slopes and embankments.
  • Low maintenance: Drought tolerant once established; far less work than maintaining turf in problem areas.

Planting & Care

  • Light: Part shade to deep shade; tolerates managed sun exposure.
  • Soil: Well-drained preferred; adapts to diverse soil profiles.
  • Spacing: 18 inches apart for groundcover use; 100 plants covers approximately 225 square feet.
  • Watering: Consistent moisture during establishment; drought tolerant once rooted in.
  • Maintenance: Trim edges regularly to control spread; apply balanced slow-release fertilizer in spring if needed.

Shipping Information

  • Ships in 2.5-inch pots or bare-root bundles of 25 for large-scale plantings.
  • Cannot ship to: Delaware, Oregon, or Washington.

When will my order ship?

Most orders ship within 2–5 business days. You'll receive a tracking email as soon as your order is on its way. Shipping times may vary slightly during peak growing season.

How do I plant my new plant when it arrives?

Water your plant thoroughly as soon as it arrives. Choose a location that matches the plant's light requirements, dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball, and plant at the same depth it was growing in the pot. Water deeply after planting and keep the soil consistently moist for the first few weeks while roots establish.

What if my plant arrives damaged?

We stand behind every plant we ship. If your plant arrives damaged or in poor condition, please contact us within 5 days of delivery with a photo and we'll make it right — replacement or refund, your choice.

What growing zones do your plants ship to?

Most of our plants are suited to USDA Hardiness Zones 5–9. Each product page includes the specific zone range for that plant. Some plants cannot ship to certain states due to agricultural regulations — this is noted on individual product pages.
