Description

Sprinter® Boxwood (Buxus microphylla 'Bulthouse' PP25896 / 'Sprinter®') is the premier fast-growing evergreen for homeowners seeking classic, manicured lines without waiting years for traditional varieties to mature. An improved, vigorous selection of 'Winter Gem', Sprinter® puts on rapid annual growth to close hedge gaps and establish clean foundation borders quickly. Its glossy, rich green foliage holds its color beautifully through summer heat and winter freezes, responding crisply to shearing while remaining naturally resistant to browsing deer.

Why Gardeners Choose Sprinter® Boxwood

  • Accelerated growth rate: Grows noticeably faster than standard cultivars—fills out into a dense, solid hedge in a fraction of the time.
  • Year-round rich green color: Glossy evergreen foliage maintains deep color and resists winter bronzing far better than older varieties.
  • Excellent shearing tolerance: Takes formal trimming, low geometric edges, and soft natural pruning with ease.
  • Manageable mature size: Reaches an ideal 2–4 feet tall and wide, making it perfect for tidy foundation plantings and walkways.
  • Deer and rabbit resistant: Naturally unpalatable to browsing wildlife, keeping your borders intact year-round.
  • Cold hardy to Zone 5: Reliable and resilient across USDA Hardiness Zones 5–8.

Planting & Care

  • Light: Full sun to part shade; thrives with morning sun and light afternoon shade in warmer zones.
  • Soil: Moist, well-draining soil with a neutral to slightly acidic pH; avoids standing water or waterlogged root zones.
  • Spacing: Plant on 2- to 3-foot centers for a continuous, seamless low hedge; space 4 feet apart for distinct individual shrubs.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly 1–2 times weekly during the first growing season; requires consistent moisture while establishing deep roots.
  • Pruning: Shear lightly in late spring after the initial flush of new growth has hardened off to shape into formal hedges or globes.

Reviews

When will my order ship?

Most orders ship within 2–5 business days. You'll receive a tracking email as soon as your order is on its way. Shipping times may vary slightly during peak growing season.

How do I plant my new plant when it arrives?

Water your plant thoroughly as soon as it arrives. Choose a location that matches the plant's light requirements, dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball, and plant at the same depth it was growing in the pot. Water deeply after planting and keep the soil consistently moist for the first few weeks while roots establish.

What if my plant arrives damaged?

We stand behind every plant we ship. If your plant arrives damaged or in poor condition, please contact us within 5 days of delivery with a photo and we'll make it right — replacement or refund, your choice.

What growing zones do your plants ship to?

Most of our plants are suited to USDA Hardiness Zones 5–9. Each product page includes the specific zone range for that plant. Some plants cannot ship to certain states due to agricultural regulations — this is noted on individual product pages.
