Description

Munstead Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia 'Munstead') is a classic English lavender with a long, distinguished history — compact, hardy, and heavily fragrant with traditional blue-purple flower spikes above narrow gray-green foliage. One of the earliest lavenders to bloom each season, it's a reliable performer in sunny, well-drained spots and a favorite for edging, sachets, culinary use, and creating low fragrant hedges.

Why Gardeners Choose Munstead Lavender

  • Intensely fragrant: Heavily scented blooms emit their most potent fragrance in hot, sunny conditions — a classic true lavender aroma.
  • Early bloomer: One of the first lavenders to flower each season, providing early-summer color and fragrance.
  • Compact and tidy: Stays well-behaved and low — ideal for edging, borders, and low hedges.
  • Culinary and craft uses: Edible flower buds are excellent in cooking; dried spikes are perfect for sachets and potpourri.
  • Pollinator friendly: Bees are especially attracted to Munstead — a classic bee garden staple.
  • Hardy and adaptable: Reliable performer across a wide range of climates in full sun.

Planting & Care

  • Light: Full sun; dry, sunny conditions bring out the strongest fragrance.
  • Soil: Well-drained, rocky or sandy soil; tolerates lean conditions well. Benefits from lime enrichment.
  • Planting time: Spring or early fall.
  • Watering: Minimal once established — overwatering is the most common mistake with lavender.
  • Harvesting: Cut flower spikes when the first blooms open for best dried fragrance and color.
  • Winter care: Provide light protection in the coldest zones to ensure reliable return.

When will my order ship?

Most orders ship within 2–5 business days. You'll receive a tracking email as soon as your order is on its way. Shipping times may vary slightly during peak growing season.

How do I plant my new plant when it arrives?

Water your plant thoroughly as soon as it arrives. Choose a location that matches the plant's light requirements, dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball, and plant at the same depth it was growing in the pot. Water deeply after planting and keep the soil consistently moist for the first few weeks while roots establish.

What if my plant arrives damaged?

We stand behind every plant we ship. If your plant arrives damaged or in poor condition, please contact us within 5 days of delivery with a photo and we'll make it right — replacement or refund, your choice.

What growing zones do your plants ship to?

Most of our plants are suited to USDA Hardiness Zones 5–9. Each product page includes the specific zone range for that plant. Some plants cannot ship to certain states due to agricultural regulations — this is noted on individual product pages.
